Our Staff

Pastor Matt Herrell, M.Min.

President & Administrator

Pastor Matt joined the staff of both the church and the academy in the summer of 2016. Before this, he and his family served in multiple capacities in many different places. Pastor Matt has a background in children’s, youth, and adult Sunday School classes, public school Bible programs, and youth ministries. He and his family also served for six years as missionaries to Peru, where he was involved in church planting, children’s homes, and an English speaking youth group. In November 2018, Fairview Baptist Church voted to make Pastor Matt the Senior Pastor and President of the academy.

Pastor Matt and his wife, Crystal, have four children: Maddie, Kyle, Lauren, and Tanner. He graduated from the Crown College of the Bible in 1996 with a bachelor of Biblical Studies. In 2021, he completed a Masters of Ministry also from Crown College.

Dr. Jack Scallions

President Emeritus

In September 1973, Fairview Baptist Church called Jack Scallions as its pastor, and in 1977 he founded the Fairview Christian Academy.

Dr. Scallions graduated from Temple Baptist Seminary in 1973, taking the M.R.E. and Master of Divinity degrees. He was honored by his Alma Mater with a Doctorate of Divinity Degree in 1996.

In November 2018, Pastor Scallions was voted into the role of Pastor & President Emeritus. This came after forty-two years of faithful service to the church and academy. Pastor still continues to speak in chapel, connect with the students, and provide spiritual guidance and leadership.

He and his wife, Paulette, have three children: Randy Scallions, Mrs. Dana Cash, and Mrs. Marty Alexander.

Mrs. Mary Ann Davis, M.Ed.

Mrs. Davis is the senior faculty member (1978 to present). During her years at FCA, she has taught 2nd grade through 12th grade and at present is teaching English in grades 7-12.

She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education with an English proficiency and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum from Tennessee Temple University.

Mrs. Davis believes God led her to Fairview to serve Him by serving the students and parents of FCA, and she has enjoyed investing in the lives of her students.

Mrs. Crystal Herrell

Preschool Director, Administrative Asst. mrsherrell@fairviewchristianacademy.org

Mrs. Herrell serves as both the Preschool Director and an Administrative Assistant. She has taught preschool for several years and loves being involved with children.

She is married to Pastor Matt Herrell and they have four children. Two of their children work on staff at Fairview, one daughter is a missionary in Paraguay, and their youngest son is a freshman at Bob Jones University.

Mr. Kyle Herrell

Mr. Herrell teaches Bible in the academy. He also coaches Cross Country and works with the Fine Arts Program.

He became an assistant pastor at Fairview Baptist Church in August of 2021 after graduating from Crown College. Kyle is married to Makenzie who grew up at Fairview Baptist Church. The Herrells have one son, Charlie, and are expecting a baby girl.

Mr. Jim Johnson

Mr. Johnson joined our staff in the fall of 2018 to teach our high school Sciences: Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Mr. Johnson has a deep background in the fields he is teaching, including a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting and Finance Emphasis from Tennessee Wesleyan University. Currently, he is pursing a Master's in Christian Education. Since completing his education, Mr. Johnson has worked in the private sector for more than ten years as both a Mechanical Engineer and in the accounting field at a local manufacturing company.

Mr. Johnson is passionate about Christian education, the ministry of the academy, and its students. He and his wife Jennifer have three sons, Benjamin, Daniel, and Isaac, who have graduated from or currently attend FCA. He is excited about serving the families of the school and preparing his students for their next steps in life.

Miss Rachel Vermaas

Miss Vermaas joined our staff full time in the fall of 2024. She has been involved in the ministries of the church and the school for many years. She teaches high school history and government, along with middle school math and computers.

Rachel graduated in May of 2024 from Crown College with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. She also graduated Salutatorian of her class. Ms. Vermaas was a student teacher here at Fairview in the spring of 2024, and is excited to be able to continue investing in the lives and hearts of the young people here at Fairview Christian Academy.

Mr. Gavin Reed

After graduating from Crown College with a Bachelor's Degree in Youth Ministry, Mr. Reed has served in various ministries for the past 20 years. He has worked with teens and children in various ways.

He has been involved with school Bible Clubs and Release Time where he taught Bible in the public schools in Virginia. He also served as pastor and youth pastor in three different churches. He joins the FCA Faculty to teach history and Bible.

Mr. Connor Roberts

Mr. Roberts is a Fairview Christian Academy Alumni. After graduating from FCA, he attended Crown College and graduated in 2021. At that point, he came on staff at both Fairview Baptist Church and Christian Academy.

He serves as the Athletic Director and boys' basketball coach. Mr. Roberts also serves as an associate pastor at FBC where he enjoys working in many facets of the ministry and at Camp Fairview.

Miss Madeline Herrell

Madeline did her student teaching at Fairview Christian Academy in the spring semester of 2019. Following her graduation from Crown College with a Bachelor of Christian Education, she accepted the position to teach at Fairview. She currently teaches students in elementary, middle, and high school English.

Maddie has spent the last several years serving as the teen girls' Sunday school teacher and in the choir at Fairview Baptist Church. Her love is English and Literature. She is excited to share this enthusiasm with her students.

Mrs. Katie Pedde

Mrs. Pedde graduated from Tennessee Tech with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. After her four children reached school age, she joined the faculty at Fairview to teach Physical Education. She also assists with our varsity girls' basketball team. She and her husband, Nathaniel, have four children who all attend FCA. Katie also serves as the nursery director at Fairview Baptist Church.

Miss Becky Anderson

After graduating from Pensacola Christian College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, Miss Anderson received her Master's Degree in Christian education from Crown College in Powell, Tennessee.

Before coming to Fairview, Miss Anderson taught at a Christian school south of Atlanta for thirteen years. She has taught every grade on the elementary level. Currently, she is teaching 5th and 6th grade at FCA.

Mrs. Beth Reed

Mrs. Reed comes to Fairview with a variety of educational experience that spans over 15 years. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University. She has been an instructional aide as well as classroom teacher. She has taught third, fourth, and fifth grades in the public school setting in Virginia. Most recently she has homeschooled her three children at the high school level.
Mrs. Reed and her husband have served in the ministry for 20 years and have been longtime friends of Fairview Baptist Church and Camp Fairview.

Mrs. Samantha Boyd

First & Second Grade, Asst. Preschool Director sboyd@fairviewchristianacademy.org

Mrs. Boyd teaches first and second grade. She also serves as our Preschool Director. In 2018, Mrs. Boyd graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education.

She enjoys serving the Lord by teaching at FCA. She believes the Lord led her to Fairview to be a light for her students and families and she is fervent about the impact Christian education has on young people.

Mrs. Kelly Chapman

Mrs. Chapman graduated from Crown College with a bachelor’s in Elementary Education. She has 8 years of teaching experience in kindergarten and K4 grades.

She and her husband, Brice, have four sons, all of whom attend FCA. She joined the FCA staff in 2023. We are excited to have her as a part of our school family.
